FAQ
1. Does FlyPing need an internet connection to work?
Ping, Telnet, and public-IP lookup all require a network connection to return results. Local IP/gateway/DNS info can still be viewed without internet access, as long as your device is connected to some network interface (e.g. connected to Wi-Fi but unable to reach the internet).
2. Why does a permission prompt appear the first time I test a local-network device with Ping/Telnet?
iOS requires apps to obtain "Local Network" permission before accessing devices on your local network (addresses in the 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x ranges). This is a system-level privacy protection built into iOS. FlyPing only uses this permission to run the local-network tests you initiate — never for anything else. If you accidentally tapped "Don't Allow," you can re-enable it under Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → FlyPing.
3. Why does Ping show a timeout or failure?
Common causes include: the target host blocks ICMP requests (many cloud servers and routers disable ping for security reasons), the network path itself is broken, or the hostname/IP you entered is incorrect. This is a normal diagnostic outcome, not a bug in FlyPing.
4. What does a "closed" port mean on the Telnet page?
It means the target host isn't running a TCP service on that port, or a firewall along the way is blocking connection attempts to that port. Helping you determine exactly this is what the feature is designed for.
5. Does FlyPing collect my usage data?
No. FlyPing has no server of its own — all tests run entirely on your device. See our Privacy Policy.
6. Which iOS versions does FlyPing support?
iPhones running iOS 17.0 or later.
7. Is FlyPing free? Will it charge in the future?
The current version is completely free, with no in-app purchases and no ads. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll clearly disclose it in the app well in advance — never hidden charges.
